Titan Metal

Titan Metal Co., founded in 1925, was a leading producer of brass rods and castings. Led by William P. Sieg and his son, the Bellefonte company was a major employer in Centre County for decades and played a significant role in community affairs.

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial

The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial and Andrew G. Curtin statue in Bellefonte honor Centre County veterans and Pennsylvania’s Civil War governor. Dedicated on June 8, 1906, the memorial and statue stand in front of the county courthouse on the Diamond in the center of town.

Pennsylvania Military Museum

The Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg preserves the commonwealth’s military history and honors the soldiers from all branches of the United States armed services. The museum opened in 1968 on the grounds of the 28th Infantry Division Shrine established by prominent Boalsburg resident, Theodore Boal.

Television

Over-the-air television came to Centre County on September 15, 1949, as WJAC began “telecasting” from Johnstown. Originally assigned to channel 13, WJAC switched in 1955 to channel 6, a more favorable frequency.

Reynolds Mansion

The Reynolds Mansion, built in 1885, is one of the best-known Victorian homes in Bellefonte. It is now operated as a bed and breakfast. Located at the corner of Linn and Allegheny streets, the home was built by William Frederick Reynolds. It is an eclectic blend of Gothic, Italianate, and Queen Anne styles.

Radio

The history of radio in Centre County has been shaped by technological developments, social change, and commercial interests. Radio is an intimate medium, and local stations are often the only stations available to listeners, even as they are shaped by distant economic trends and federal regulation.

Railroads

A quest for natural resources shaped the development of Centre County’s rail network, beginning in 1859 when the Bellefonte and Snow Shoe Railroad began hauling coal and timber from the Mountaintop area to the Bald Eagle Valley.

Meyer Dairy

Meyer Dairy, established in 1887, is the oldest continuously operated retail dairy in Centre County. The dairy store on South Atherton Street in Harris Township is particularly beloved for its milk, which is still sold in glass bottles.
